What I always did was dilute the bleach and let the bottles soak in it for an hour if they weren't too bad, if they had a horrible smell I would let them soak overnight. Run them through the dishwasher and then sterilize them afterwards.

I've done this before too. My son used to throw his bottles in the car floor when he was done. Sometimes I would forget and then find them days later under my seat.

Its not safe to keep plastic bottles in the sun. As far as bleach never use bleach to clean something your baby drinks out of. Would you use bleach to clean you dishes?
