how did your cat react after bringing a baby home?

ladyamethyst83 asked:

I’m just wondering since I’m now 29 weeks pregnant and pondering how cats deal with human babies. I don’t clean out the litter box (make my fiance do that) and I’m pretty sure my cat knows i’m pregnant (follows me around like she’s protecting me).How did your cat react?

Well it was my mates cat and my mates baby but at first he was attracted to everyone and wouldn’t leave them alone and constantly wanted attention but once the baby was born he did get under our feet, he didn’t mind the baby. When your baby first comes home keep it away from the cat because he was a bit nasty when we brought Cassie home for the first time.
    Congrats On the New Baby!!

We had 4 cats, 2 dogs, 3 birds 1 fish when our first child was born. There were no problems at all. The cats would nap on the changing table, in the crib or bassinette, so occassionally there would be a little cat hair, but that’s it. They were not all that interested in the long run. Wait until you open baby food jars of chicken or turkey….that’ll peak teir interest. The dogs were protective, followed me around, slept by the crib.

I am not sure . I have never been pregnant. But I’ve herd that cats can **** the life from a baby from the milk on there breath..So be careful……Best of Luck…

For some tips on that issue go to and read Dr. Jean Hovfe’s article titled Your Cat and Your New Baby. It’s the last of about fifty articles (alphabetical order) so scroll down and read it.

Good luck on the new addition to your home and listen to people who have had sucessful and uneventful experiences.

Sounds like your cat won’t have any major issues when the baby comes home. From my own experience, my cat didn’t change when I brought my first baby home, he was a VERY mellow cat, you could do anything to him and he wouldn’t react much. That is until I brought the new kitten home…..

We have 3 cats and all were fine when we brought my son home. The only problem we ever had was that sometimes one or the other would sleep in his bed. (Although I never saw one in there while he was sleeping in it). Now he’s 15 months old and and two of the cats put up with his rough play while the third just makes herself scarce (she was never that social to begin with). Anyway, best of luck to you and yours!
